Take an unloved, second-hand, or damaged garment, reclaim and transform it into an amazing fashion statement.
Learn a variety of techniques to reconstruct / alter shape, size and surface to give new life to old clothes and textiles.
A fun “hands on” course during which you will learn a variety of useful lifetime skills.
The fashion industry is fueled by our constant buying of new trends is using more and more energy and water.
By reworking, altering, mending and extending the use of garments we contribute to saving the environment and join the “Circular Economy ” where resources are kept in continual use as long as possible.
A knowledge of hand sewing would be useful but is not essential. We may also use sewing machines.
We will supply garments to “recycle”. Additionally, if you have something that needs repairing, bring it along to discover techniques to make it wearable again. During this course you will learn:
- Garment design
- Hand sewing
- Using Fusible iron on double sided adhesive
- Mending and alteration techniques
- Draping / restructuring
- Combining fabrics
- Gathering / pleating
- Decorative surface techniques including over printing
Tutor: Linda Gregory
Linda Gregory is a designer with over 40 years experience, with a passion for fashion, fabrics, and making. Linda has worked for a number of international companies and also has over 25 years teaching experience in further education on a wide range of subjects, including graphic design, typography, design concept, illustration, and millinery.
